Former appointments have included: Dean, Vice-Principal and Professor of Industrial Economics at UMIST, Deputy Vice-Chancellor of the University of Portsmouth and Professor of Business Strategy at the University of Bath School of Management; Visiting Professor at the Universities of Durham and Southampton. He served for nine years as a member of the Monopolies and Mergers Commission. He has also held various external positions of responsibility including as Church Commissioner and director of several companies.</p>
