He became corporate planner in the creation and privatisation of British Telecommunications PLC, then headed BT's international affairs and then, until 1994, chaired its apparatus business. He is a fellow of the Institution of Engineering and Technology and, since 1994, at the University of St Andrews. His doctoral research has been in an area where economic regulation intersects with psychology and social science.</span></p>
